For Families
Initial Assessment
The initial assessment involves asking questions about your concerns, about your child and about family life. It can take 1-3 appointments, depending on the complexity. It might also involve you completing a questionnaire about emotions and behaviour and/or me liaising with other professionals in your child's life (e.g. Teacher, GP).
The aim of the initial assessment is to reach a comprehensive understanding of your concerns and to work out which therapy would be most helpful and who best to involve in the process.
Therapy
Ongoing therapy involves us meeting over a series of appointments, focusing on a specific area of concern. It usually involves both exploration and discussion in the room and trying new approaches, strategies or techniques in-between appointments. Children and adolescents are enabled to express themselves in therapy through play, drawing and other creative processes, alongside talking.
Therapy is reviewed regularly to check whether you are moving towards your goals. Repeating the initial questionnaires can help the review process. Face to face therapy is preferable. Accessing on-line therapy is harder for children, especially those with additional needs. On-line parent sessions are possible, where necessary.
I offer a free 20 minute telephone call if you would like to check that I offer the help you are looking for, and to see whether we might work well together. Please use the contact form if you have any further questions or would like to arrange an appointment.
